Tide and Place

I am delighted to be showing painting, screen prints in this exhibition.

WRAP and Sussex Bay invite you to 'Tide and Place'. An exhibition by UK-based artists exploring our relationship with the sea and coastline.

WRAP and Sussex Bay have partnered with local artists under the banner ‘Sussex Bay Creates’ to demonstrate the ability of art to bring us together to learn, explore and experience, resulting in a programme of curated exhibitions and responses.

  • Date and Time: Friday 24th April, 6-9 PM

  • Address: WRAP, 83 Queens Road BN1 3XE

  • Please  RSVP tickets on Eventbrite

  • There will be a complimentary glass of prosecco for all guests on arrival + a bar on the rooftop where additional drinks can be purchased

  • Please note: WRAP’s home is in a wonderfully quirky period building, sadly, meaning we do not have any step-free access to these spaces

Im thrilled to be selected for Joya + Ecologia AiR residency in June. Located in the Parque Natural Sierra María-Los Vélez in the province of Almería, Andalusia, Spain. It is an off-grid arts residency situated in a rural, mountainous area at 1,000 meters altitude. "Climate-positive since 2006, Joya: AiR functions as a generative space for the emergence of climate culture, where artistic exploration contributes to reimagining human-nonhuman relations through the lenses of sustainability, rewilding, and deep ecological thinking".

Discover the art of cyanotype printing in one day

Cyanotype printing is a painterly, low-toxic way to produce unique photographic prints using light-sensitive cyanotype fluid, light, and water.

This one-day workshop includes an introduction to the history and science of cyanotypes, along with a hands-on exploration of the materials and techniques involved. Learn how to prepare paper or fabric, expose and develop images using both objects and photographic negatives, and experiment with methods such as wet-on-wet application and layered compositions.

Most materials and equipment will be provided including a range of materials and negatives to experiment with. Students are welcome to bring their own objects to use in the exposure process, e.g. flowers, leaves, utensils, semi-transparent materials, as well as any fabric to print onto.

At the end of the day everyone will have a series of prints to take home.

This course is suitable for all levels.

Costs: £75

Times: 10.30 – 16.30

Dates: 19th April & 30th May

Location: Phoenix Art Space, Brighton

Maximum: 8

Advanced Cyanotype: Photographic Image

Learn how to create cyanotype prints using photographic imagery.

These one-day advanced cyanotype courses are designed for students who already have some experience with cyanotypes and want to push the process further—technically, conceptually, and materially.

This session focuses on achieving precision, control, and tonal richness when working from photographic imagery.

Students will:

  • Learn how to translate a photographic image into a high-quality transparency negative.

  • Develop crisp, controlled prints through careful exposure and processing.

  • Trial different papers and chemical variations to explore tonal range and surface effects.

  • Spend focused time refining a single image through contact sheets and tonal test exposures.

  • Explore montage techniques using both physical negatives and digital methods in Photoshop.

  • Learn advanced layering strategies, including foreground, mid-ground, and background construction, as well as multiple exposure techniques.

  • Experiment with bleaching and a range of dyeing techniques to extend the visual language of the print.

Materials will be provided, but anyone who knows how to print their own negatives is welcome to bring some. Students can also bring any paper to experiment with.

Costs: £80

Times: 10.30 – 16.30

Date: Saturday 9 May

Location: Phoenix Art Space

Maximum Attendees: 8

Advanced Cyanotype: Fabric & Alternative Surfaces

Explore the creative possibilities of cyanotype printing on a variety of surfaces.

These one-day advanced cyanotype courses are designed for students who already have some experience with cyanotypes and want to push the process further—technically, conceptually, and materially.

This session expands cyanotype beyond paper, exploring how the process behaves across textiles, objects, and unconventional materials.

Students will:

  • Work with a variety of fabrics and surfaces suitable for both functional and decorative outcomes.

  • Learn processes for printing onto materials such as cotton, canvas, denim and any other natural fabrics.

  • Explore applications for cushion covers, T-shirts, jeans, and create wall hangings.

  • Experiment with printing onto objects including glass, stone, and wood.

  • Use bleaching and dyeing techniques to alter tone, colour, and surface character.

Please do bring any items of clothing or cushion covers or articles that you want to experiment with (must be 100% natural fibres)

Costs: £80

I Feel You There, gelli print acrylic on cartridge paper, 44x32cm, 2025

Poem paired with artwork above:

I feel you there in my pocket,

a foreign body rolling back and forth as I walk,

I toy with you absent mindedly at first

but soon I take notice of your skin dimpled but smooth,

when I hold you your skin heats with mine

when I squeeze you your subcutaneous tissue yields so satisfyingly,

you are small and insignificant

yet knowing you are there makes me radiate like your hue

your strong juicy smell makes me think of summers gone past

You are an every day joy,

my silent companion.

Sussex Bay Creates: Living Sea

21 - 25 October 2025

I am delighted to be exhibiting in 'Living Sea' group exhibition from 21–25 October 2025. Colonnade House in Worthing will host an art exhibition that celebrates the start of the Sussex Bay project.

Sussex Bay is a cross-sector initiative aiming to restore and protect the coastal and marine environments from Chichester Harbour to Camber Sands, and to connect the communities that depend on them.

This exhibition will;

– showcase a small group of contemporary artists working along the Sussex coast.

– explore what a “living sea” means … culturally / environmentally / socially: approach this through a spirit of radical optimism, of embracing hope as a radical and political act in the face of the climate emergency.

– act as a call to action, inviting artists, communities and partners to join a longer-term Sussex Bay creative network.

1-1 photographic cyanotype workshop

IMG_0569.HEIC

Neil a photographer wanted to learn how to create cyanotypes from his own photographs. So I personalised a four hour session for him running through the whole process from beginning to end. From preparing images in photoshop to printing large negatives of his work, preparing the paper, to exposure and developing. He took home a range of finished pieces on high quality paper, the negatives produced, the knowledge to recreate more at home and the confidence to experiment with this beautiful medium.

"I really enjoyed the workshop so much. It’s given me some great new ideas to try and renewed my interest in alternative printing processes. Thank you so much for your clear instruction, detail and insight in making cyanotypes from negatives, the time flew & I feel confident & inspired to work with it on my own now" Neil
